Yerba Buena created an outdoor play area of about 2,500 square feet for school-age children in a narrow space next to the Duboce Park basketball court and playground. The previously largely unused area had been home to a storage container and lots of weeds.

To create a new “adventure” area, we installed several undulating earthen mounds covered with concrete, asphalt, and blue rubberized play surface. We added natural logs and boulders for children to scramble on. We also installed a set of overhead rings and a net tree for climbing.

New gate openings were added to connect the new play zone to the existing basketball court. We lowered two of the basketball hoops so younger players could play half court games.
